Young Friends of EWF
On April 16th, 2009 the newly established Young Friends of the Elie Wiesel Foundation hosted its first benefit at the 92nd Street Y in Tribeca.
Golden Globe Award winning actress and Oscar winner Natalie Portman received the inaugural Young Friends Award. Natalie was recognized for using her celebrity to shine the spotlight on the impact that micro-loans can make in the lives of the severely poor in developing countries. She makes frequent appearances on behalf of FINCA International, and was named its Ambassador of Hope in 2004. Natalie most recently accepted the invitation to serve as Co-chair of the Village Banking Campaign with Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan.
The evening also featured a fashion show by shoptrilogyonline.com, a raffle and two DJ’s.
